Back to TopCommentsE-mailPrint
A Barnes & Thornburg attorney who is president of the Marion County Bar Association is taking on a new role with a national legal organization.

Jimmie McMillian has been appointed to a one-year term as deputy chief of staff for the National Bar Association, which represents more than 22,000 minority attorneys, judges, legal scholars, and law students throughout the world.

McMillian will assist incoming NBA president Vanita Banks with her duties and will also help develop and implement plans to achieve her goals. One of the NBA's key initiatives this year is reaching out to young people, according to a news release. The organization's "Expanding the Pipeline" program is a series of activities designed to get youth involved and interested in the legal profession.

A 2002 graduate of Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis, McMillian is an associate in the Indianapolis-based firm's litigation department. His experience as a key volunteer for Reach for Youth's Teen Court - a peer-sentencing diversion program for juvenile offenders and run by youth 10-17 years of age in Marion and Johnson counties - was cited as a reason for his appointment.
