An event Friday at the Birch Bayh Federal Building and United States Courthouse in Indianapolis will celebrate the recent installation of new murals on the third floor of the building as well as recognize the 75th anniversary of murals on that floor.

The event is by invitation only, but the public can view the murals during normal business hours at the courthouse. Photo ID is required to enter the building.

Indianapolis-based artist Robert Eagerton won the competition to create the murals, which include interpretations of law and justice, photos of each of the Southern District of Indiana’s four division locations, and representations of Indiana industries. The Historical Society of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana funded the commissioning of the new murals.

The Great Depression-era murals by Grant Christian will also be celebrated at the event. These murals reflect on the foundation of Indianapolis as the capital, the history of the post office, and life in Indianapolis during the 1930s, and are located on the southwest corner of the third floor.
