7th Circuit judge to speak at Black History event

7th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Ann Claire Williams will be the featured speaker at an event celebrating Black History Month hosted by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.

Judge Williams was the first judge of color appointed to the 7th Circuit and the third African-American woman to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals. She has a longstanding commitment to education and training and has traveled to several African countries to train judges and lawyers on topics such as judicial ethics, trial advocacy, and domestic and gender violence.

Chief Judge Richard L. Young, U.S. Attorney Joseph Hogsett, and Chief Probation Officer Dwight Wharton will also make brief remarks.

The celebration begins at 2 p.m. Feb. 2 in Courtroom 216 of the Birch Bayh Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, 46 E. Ohio St., Indianapolis. Approval of one hour of CLE is pending. The program is free and open to the public.
