As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowKnightstown Town City Judge Lewis Hayden Butler resigned from the bench on Monday and the Indiana Supreme Court has appointed New Castle attorney Joseph Lansinger to take that seat.
The 70-year old judge didn’t offer a reason in his letter to the court, but his term would have ended this year following his most recent re-election in 2007 when he ran unopposed. He was first appointed to the court in July 1998. The local court convenes on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday morning to hear traffic violations, infractions, and misdemeanors.
As judge pro temp, Lansinger will serve on the bench until Republican precinct committee members in Wayne Township choose a successor. Lansinger has been licensed to practice law since 2008, according to the Indiana Roll of Attorneys.
Applications are due Feb. 16, and current state statute dictates that a nominee does not have to be an attorney. Any Republican living in Knightstown interested in the post should send a letter of interest to Todd Hiday, Henry County's Republican county chairman, at 1111 Crescent Dr., New Castle 47362.
