Evansville event creates mock trial to educate young attorneys

The Evansville Bar Association will hold “The Anatomy of a Jury Trial” Wednesday in the city’s federal building. The event developed from concerns by Chief Judge Richard L. Young of the Southern District of Indiana that younger attorneys no longer receive trial experience that used to be available.

Young will preside over the mock trial that will feature veteran attorneys. Attendees will watch how to properly conduct a jury trial from start to finish. The day will wrap up with a question and answer session with Young, Vanderburgh Circuit Judge Carl Heldt and U.S. Magistrate William Hussmann, who will give pointers on “best practices.”

Students of the Randall T. Shepard Academy of Law and Social Justice will also attend. The case that will be tried is based on an actual sexual harassment case heard by the Southern District court.
