The publication U.S. News & World Report has released its latest rankings of best law schools, and three of Indiana’s schools are in the top 90. Two of the state’s four law schools saw their rankings drop this year.

Notre Dame Law School went up one spot to No. 22 on the list. Both Indiana University Maurer School of Law and Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law came in lower this year on the list as compared to last year. IU Maurer dropped three spots to No. 26; IU McKinney came in at No. 89. It was ranked No. 79 last year.

In the last three years, NDLS and IU Maurer have been consistently ranked in the mid- to high-20s on the best law schools list. IU McKinney has typically been ranked lower. It came in at No. 86 in 2010. The school has been affected by changes in methodology to include part-time students’ information with full-time students.

IU McKinney was ranked No. 11 in specialties of health care law and No. 9 in legal writing. The specialty rankings are based solely on nominations by legal educators at peer institutions.

The data was collected in the fall of 2011 and early 2012.

Valparaiso University Law School appears on the list as unranked.
