A Fort Wayne attorney shot Tuesday morning at his home is recovering from his injuries, which are not life threatening.

Police believe David J. Kuker, 45, encountered an unknown man in the garage of his home. When Kuker tried to leave the garage, the man reportedly shot Kuker with a handgun, hitting him at least one time. Police also believe Kuker was sprayed in the face with an unknown substance. Kuker was in serious condition at the scene and was transported to a local hospital.

Raquel Foster, public information officer for the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, said the home showed no signs of forced entry and no items were missing. She said police are investigating several possible motives but none had been determined. There is no suspect description at this time and he remains at large.

Kuker is a partner at Faegre Baker Daniels in Fort Wayne. He joined the firm in 1995 and is the office leader of the Fort Wayne operations.

“Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Dave and his family during this time of recovery,” said Andrew Humphrey, managing partner.
