The Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana was a proud sponsor of the American Cancer Society Discovery Ball Nov. 15 through its Joan Fullam Irick Memorial Fund.

Joan Fullam Irick was the president of DTCI in 2002 when she was diagnosed with colon cancer. She lost her battle in June 2003. DTCI quickly established a fund in her memory through donations from its members.

Over the years, many Indiana law students have received scholarships from the Irick Fund. This year, the remaining funds were donated to the American Cancer Society’s Discovery Ball. The ball was held in Indianapolis at the Westin Hotel. Honoring Irick’s memory at the event were her husband, Tom; and her daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Chris Drewry. DTCI directors Tom Hays and Libby Moss were in attendance along with executive director Lisa Mortier and a table of 10 from Kightlinger & Gray, the firm where Irick practiced law for 24 years.•
