Evansville Bar Association to host discussion on marriage equality

An Indiana University Maurer School of Law professor will be the featured speaker at the Evansville Bar Association’s public discussion on marriage equality Friday.

Professor Deborah Widiss will discuss the issues of marriage equality, civil rights and the courts with moderator Cheryl Musgrave, former Vanderburgh County Commissioner.

Widiss’ research has focused on employment law, family law, the legislative process and the significance of gender and gender stereotypes in the development of law and government policy.

“This presentation is in line with the bar’s mission to inform the general public about matters of general importance and interest,” said Scott Wylie, president of the Evansville Bar board of directors. “The bar association does not take an official position on the issues, and the presentation itself will be neutral as to the issues. Our intent is to inform people so that they are able to understand the law behind the headlines.”

The event begins at 10:30 a.m. March 7 in the Blue and Gold Room in the Old National Bank Building in downtown Evansville. Time will be available at the end for questions from the audience.
