A Marion Superior judge will be recognized for providing internships to Indianapolis students that offer insight into the
judicial system.

Judge David A. Shaheed will receive the Youth Connections Award from Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana May 19. The award
recognizes an employer who demonstrates outstanding support for young people with barriers to education by providing jobs
and internships.

Judge Shaheed opens his Superior Court to Indianapolis Metropolitan High School students by providing them internships. The
students have completed mock trials covering students’ rights, examinations of ballistics evidence, and reviews of different
types of sentences. The internships provide credit toward graduation. The high school is operated by Goodwill Education Initiatives
with the goal of increasing graduation rates and the enrollment of students into post-secondary education programs.

Goodwill Industries also cites the judge as a model of the value of professional skills.
