Indiana 7th District Rep. Andre Carson will be the keynote speaker at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law’s annual Public Interest Recognition Dinner April 12, where three graduates will be honored for their work.

Alumni honorees are:
•    H. Kennard Bennett ’82, of Indianapolis, whose practice focuses on guardianships and consumer health issues, including the civil prosecution of nursing home abuse and neglect.
•    Monica Foster ’83, of Indianapolis, chief federal defender with the Indiana Federal Community Defender’s office. She previously was a leading advocate in private practice, defending indigent clients in death penalty cases.
•    Vanderburgh Superior Judge Brett J. Niemeier ’85, of Evansville. As a juvenile court judge, Niemeier is known for his work on behalf of children. He also created an emergency guardianship program for the elderly and those with disabilities, and a foundation for families who have emergency needs.

Proceeds from the event support IU McKinney’s Loan Repayment Assistance Program Endowment, which helps graduates working in public interest law repay their student loans. The event is sponsored by the law school and student group Equal Justice Works.

The dinner begins with cocktails at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. in the Atrium of Inlow Hall, 530 W. New York St., Indianapolis. To learn more about the dinner or to purchase tickets, email [email protected].
