Members of the Indiana judiciary will gather this week to mark the 20th anniversary of the Indiana Conference for Legal Education Opportunity.

The Indiana Supreme Court is hosting a 20th anniversary ceremony for the ICLEO program at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Supreme Court courtroom. The anniversary ceremony will include more than 160 ICLEO alumni and supporters, who will gather to celebrate two decades of the program’s diversity and inclusion initiatives across the Indiana judiciary.

“Our profession is strengthened by judges and lawyers with a variety of backgrounds and experiences,” Chief Justice Loretta Rush said in a statement Monday. “The ICLEO program is helping to encourage diverse individuals to consider a legal career and I am proud to be a part of the celebration.”

Since its inception in 1997, ICLEO has provided networking opportunities and financial support to more than 500 individuals, who also participate in an intensive summer study prior to entering law school. Program participants may be eligible for a $9,000 annual scholarship.

“ICLEO has been a dramatic demonstration of the Indiana legal community’s commitment to equal opportunity in the profession,” Former Chief Justice Randall Shepard, who established ICLEO with former Gov. Frank O’Bannon and the General Assembly, said in a statement.

Applications for the next ICLEO class will be available later this fall at courts.in.gov/cleo. Those interested in attending the Thursday celebration can contact Indiana Office of Court Services staff attorney Ashley Rozier at [email protected].
