The Indiana Supreme Court is now accepting applications for the state’s next public defender.

The state public defender represents indigent incarcerated inmates in challenges to convictions and sentences under Indiana Post-Conviction Rule 1 and is appointed by the Supreme Court pursuant to Indiana Code chapter 33-40-1. Indiana’s current public defender, Stephen Owens, is retiring in December.

Annual salary for the position is $120,578.64, and most state benefits apply.

Applications, which consist of a resume and cover letter, should be sent via email to [email protected] no later than Oct.16. More details on qualifications and a job description can be found on the Supreme Court’s website.
