The Lake County Superior Courthouse in Gary will soon have a new name to honor an Indiana Supreme Court Justice. Lake County Commissioners voted to name the courthouse the Robert D. Rucker Building after the justice.

Commissioner Roosevelt Allen spearheaded the renaming effort and said naming the building after Justice Rucker recognizes his distinguished career and that he is a role model for many black males. Justice Rucker is a Gary native who earned his law degree from Valparaiso University in 1976. He joined the Indiana Supreme Court in 1999.
