First Wednesday to discuss crime

The ACLU of Indiana kicks off its spring season of First Wednesdays Feb. 4 with the topic, “Crime in the Streets: What can police really do?” Featured speakers are Ben Hunter, Marion County City-County Councilor and Director of Public Safety for Butler University; Shirley Purvitis, with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department; and Thomas Stucky, Ph.D., associate professor of criminal justice at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis’ School of Public and Environmental Affairs. News editor Laura McPhee of Nuvo Newsweekly will moderate the event.

The free discussion begins at noon at the IUPUI Campus Center, Room 409, 420 University Blvd., Indianapolis. Free parking is available in the Vermont Street garage with a voucher given out during the discussion.
