Marion Superior Judge Grant Hawkins has ordered the trial for Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officer David Bisard moved
from the Indianapolis media market because of publicity surrounding the fatal accident involving the officer in 2010.
Bisard is accused of driving drunk and killing one motorcyclist, Eric Wells, and injuring two others in August 2010. He was
on patrol when he hit the motorcyclists stopped a traffic light in Marion County. Mary Mills and Kurt Weekly were seriously
injured in the crash.
A blood draw at the time showed Bisard had a 0.19 BAC, but Hawkins originally didn’t allow that evidence to be used
at Bisard’s trial to support DUI charges. The Indiana Court of Appeals in September ordered that the blood be allowed at Bisard’s trial for
reckless homicide and other alcohol-related charges.
Hawkins hasn’t ruled on where the trial will be located.
