Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry underwent cardiac bypass surgery Monday at an Indianapolis-area hospital.

Curry began feeling ill on the afternoon of May 6 and drove himself to the hospital. He didn’t have a heart attack, but tests showed he had arterial blockage and his doctor recommended he have bypass surgery. His surgery began at 8 a.m. and he was out of surgery by 12:30 p.m., said spokeswoman Lara Beck.

A release from the prosecutor’s office said that Curry leads an active and healthy lifestyle, but his family has a history of heart problems.

While Curry recovers, Chief Deputy Prosecutor David Rimstidt and Chief Counsel Laurel Judkins will manage the day-to-day administration of the office. Beck said Curry will be in the hospital around five to seven days and possibly back in the office full time in eight weeks.
