Indiana Court of Appeals Judge Margret Robb was among those honored recently with a Torchbearer Award from the Indiana Commission for Women.

The Torchbearers, selected from a statewide pool of nominations, recognizes women who have been pioneers or become leaders by breaking down barriers hindering women’s full participation.

Robb was appointed to the Indiana Court of Appeals in July 1998 by Gov. Frank O’Bannon. In 2011, she made history when she became the first woman chief judge in the COA’s 100-plus year history.

Prior to her appointment to the Court of Appeals, Robb practiced law in Lafayette and served as Chapter 11, 12 and a standing Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustee for the Northern District of Indiana. She also was a registered family and civil mediator and served as a Tippecanoe County deputy public defender.

Robb graduated magna cum laude from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and is an alumna of the Graduate Program for Indiana Judges.
