Indiana will receive more than $21 million in Recovery Act funds to maintain or increase public safety in the state, while creating or retaining jobs within the law enforcement community.

The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute applied for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program funds, which it plans to use to enhance criminal-justice information-sharing technology initiatives, develop re-entry programs, and provide community-based alternatives to incarceration, among other initiatives.

Overall, Indiana and local communities will receive more than $35 million as part of the JAG monies, which allocates 60 percent of the award to the state and 40 percent to local units of government, according to the press release from the U.S. Department of Justice. The allocation of the Local Recovery Act JAG awards will be announced at a later date.
