Elizabeth C. Hurley has been selected as the newest magistrate judge in St. Joseph Circuit Court. She replaces Magistrate Judge David T. Ready, who is retiring from the bench.

Hurley, a deputy prosecutor in the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office, will begin her official duties as magistrate judge Jan. 2. She was in private practice before joining the prosecutor’s office nearly 10 years ago. Hurley is a graduate of Notre Dame Law School and was a finalist for a judgeship in St. Joseph Superior Court in 2009.

St. Joseph Circuit Judge Michael G. Gotsch said Hurley has an excellent reputation in the local legal community and has demonstrated leadership ability.

Ready, 74, is retiring after 12 years as magistrate judge in the Mishawaka Division of the Circuit Court. He has been certified by the Indiana Supreme Court to serve as a senior judge.
