The Environmental Law Institute has named an Indiana University scientist and faculty member the winner of the 2012 National Wetlands Award for Science Research.

Christopher Craft, the Janet Duey Professor in Rural Land Policy at IU, has over the past 30 years built one of the top research programs in the United States in the areas of wetland ecology, plant community restoration and nutrient cycling in wetland ecosystems. The Environmental Law Institute chose Craft for his 90 oft-cited peer-reviewed publications, which the institute said have made a significant contribution to the understanding of how wetlands function.

A ceremony honoring Craft and five other award recipients will be at the U.S. Botanic Garden in Washington, D.C., on Thursday.
