Indiana county settles dispute with forensics firm

A southern Indiana county has reached a settlement in its billing dispute with a forensics company that testified on the prosecution's behalf last year in a triple-murder trial.

Independent Forensic Services had billed Floyd County $479,000 for DNA testing done for David Camm's third murder trial, which ended with the former state trooper's acquittal in the fatal September 2000 shootings of his wife and two children.

The News and Tribune reports the county paid a portion of the company's previous bills but challenged a $211,500 bill it received in February.

Floyd County Council Attorney Chris Lane said Friday the county has agreed to pay $165,000 of that amount, saving taxpayers $35,000.

Council President Jim Wathen says, "It's not a gold mine or anything, but it was worth the effort."
