Susan L. Collins, an 11-year veteran of the U.S. Attorney’s office, was among 37 people who applied for the judgeship. She was chosen by the judges of the District Court from a pool of five finalists to replace Judge Roger B. Cosbey when he retires.
Chief Judge Philip P. Simon said that Collins “is an outstanding attorney with significant experience prosecuting complex criminal cases in Federal court as an Assistant U.S. Attorney.” Collins has experience handling a variety of cases, including wire fraud, health care fraud, child exploitation, human trafficking and kidnapping. She worked as a deputy prosecuting attorney in Lake County from 1987 until she joined the U.S. Attorney’s office in 2003.
Collins will assume office Jan. 16, 2015.
