The Women and the Law Division (WLD) is proud to announce that it is continuing its mentoring program for the fourth consecutive year. This year, the program consists of 18 teams with nearly 90 participants. Each team is made up of four to five participants with a balanced mix on each team of “mentors” and “mentees.”

While the primary goal of the program is for the more experienced lawyers to mentor the less-experienced lawyers (or law students), we have no doubt that mentors will end up learning from each other as will the mentees. This year, there are several law school participants, and the WLD looks forward to working with the future members of the profession.

We are pleased and proud to have so many distinguished, accomplished and caring women who have volunteered their valuable time to mentor others. We are likewise excited to have so many lawyers (and future lawyers) who have eagerly signed up to receive mentoring. Each team has committed to meeting face-to-face at least four times this year and we hope that many teams will attend WLD events together.

The WLD celebrated the program with a kickoff luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 26. Despite being one of the coldest days of the year, nearly half of the program participants attended the luncheon. Alison Martin-Brooks of the Mentoring Women’s Network Foundation gave tips for the lunch attendees about building their own personal board to help further their professional development. Martin-Brooks also discussed the Mentoring Women’s Network “Pass the Torch” pledge.

After Martin-Brooks finished speaking, the groups then met for the very first time. The mentoring committee is excited for such a great start to the program and hopes that each group continues with the energy that they brought to the kickoff luncheon.•
