The Indiana Supreme Court Monday announced the establishment of a task force to review the Tax Court’s operations.

“We find a comprehensive review of the caseload and resources available to the Tax Court is warranted and that a special task force should collaborate with the Indiana Tax Court to review the court’s resources, caseload, performance and operations,” the court said in an order.

Court of Appeals Judge James S. Kirsch will chair the committee that also will consist of Marion Superior Judge Robert R. Altice; Faegre Baker Daniels LLP partner David A. Suess; Eli Lilly & Co. attorney Kathryn A. Lodato; Matt Light and Gary Secrest from the Indiana attorney general’s office and Asheesh Agarwal of the Indiana Department of Revenue.

Tax Court Judge Martha B. Wentworth and Senior Judge Thomas Fisher will serve as ex officio liaisons to the task force, which is charged with delivering a report and recommendations to the Supreme Court by March 1, 2016.

Justices last year amended Tax Court rules, and Senate Bill 423 proposes requiring the Indiana Judicial Center to review the Tax Court’s workload and backlog of cases and report back to lawmakers before December 2016. Senate Bill 423, which includes other property tax reform measures, is currently in conference committee.
