A judge and two attorneys working in the public sector were honored at the 8th annual Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law Public Interest Recognition Dinner April 16.

Held in the law school’s atrium, the evening program honored three alumni and helped support the Loan Repayment Assistance Program Endowment which assists IU McKinney graduates working in public interest repay their student loans. Ken Falk, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana, was the keynote speaker.

The alumni honored were:
•    Stephen Culley, Class of 1977 and managing attorney at the Evansville office of Indiana Legal Services. He joined ILS in 1978 when the legal aid organization opened an office in Evansville and now oversees a staff of eight, including four attorneys;
•    Judge Maria Granger of Floyd Superior Court, Class of 1994. She is the supervising judge in the county’s Veterans Court of Southern Indiana;
•    Aida Ramirez, Class of 2012, and director of the Columbus Human Rights Commission. She has helped enforce the Indiana city’s ordinances that prohibit discrimination.
