Taft to hold fundraiser for injured IP attorney

Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP has organized a cocktail party and silent auction to raise money for Derek Lavender, an intellectual property attorney with the firm who was recently paralyzed as a result of a motorcycle accident.

Lavender, a registered patent attorney in the firm’s Indianapolis office, was injured the morning of June 15 while riding his motorcycle into work. The accident caused severe injuries, including paralysis from the chest down, broken ribs and other broken bones. His wife, LeAnne, has written about the accident and Lavender’s recovery on their personal blog.

Lavender is a 2014 graduate of Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.

The fundraiser is 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Regions Tower Rooftop- Fifth Floor of the Regions Bank Tower, 211 N. Pennsylvania St., Indianapolis, IN 46204. Tickets are $50. There will be live music, cocktails, tastings and a silent auction.
