“The city has lost a friend and valued colleague,” Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear said in a statement Friday. “He has been a tremendous public servant and steadfast member of the city court system. Our hearts go out to Judge Caldwell’s family and those in the courts (who) worked closely with him.”
Caldwell graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1964 before going on to earn his juris doctorate from the Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis in 1968. Following his graduation from law school, Caldwell served as a deputy prosecutor in Tipton for three years. He moved to Hamilton County and opened a law practice in Noblesville in 1972 while also serving as the Hamilton County prosecutor from 1972 to 1977.
Caldwell became Noblesville City Judge in 1992. He was a member of the Hamilton County Bar Association and the Indiana City and Town Court Judges Association. He also held memberships in the Indiana State Bar Association, Tipton County Bar Association and Indiana Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys during his career.
In addition to his legal group memberships, Caldwell was a charter member and past president of the Noblesville Sunriser’s Kiwanis Club, holding membership since 1968. He was also a member of the Noblesville Elks Lodge, the Fox Prairie Men’s Golf Club and the First Christian Church.
Caldwell’s family includes his two sons, Trent and his wife, Theresa, and their daughter, Taylor; and Travis and his wife, Rebecca, and their daughter, Lucy, and son, Dane.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
