The United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana announced Monday that it will adopt a set of amended local rules beginning Dec. 1.

The amendments related to Local Rules 7-1, motion practice; 16-1, pretrial procedures; and 69-4, body attachments; hearings.

Rule 7-1 will be amended to require that any responses be due with 14 days after service of the motion, and any replies be due with seven days after service of the response.

A section will be added to Rule 16-1 to require that in actions where a party is unrepresented, the court may issue a scheduling order after consulting with attorneys and unrepresented parties at a scheduling conference.

Finally, Rule 69-4 will be amended to allow a magistrate judge to issue a body attachment if a judgment debtor fails to appear for a hearing.
