John Joyce was suspended for at least 180 days without automatic reinstatement effective June 20, 2014, for committing “professional misconduct.” According to the Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission, Joyce provided legal service to customers of United Financial Systems Corp., an insurance marketing agency that provided estate planning services to avoid probate, for nine years. In 2010, the Indiana Supreme Court found that UFSC had engaged in the unauthorized practice of law for several years and suspended Joyce as a result.
Joyce petitioned for reinstatement on Oct. 6, 2015, and following proceedings before a hearing officer, the commission recommended his reinstatement in December 2016. The Indiana Supreme Court granted Joyce’s reinstatement petition Friday and assessed any costs owed under Admission and Discipline Rule 23(18)(d)(2016) against him.
