An Indianapolis man who opened fire on a police officer after crashing his car at the end of a high-speed chase was sentenced to 20 years in prison, Marion County prosecutor Terry Curry announced March 23.

Kennic Brown was sentenced on March 20 for shooting a firearm at an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer. Brown pleaded guilty earlier this month to Level 1 felony attempted murder for the December 22, 2015, incident.

Authorities said Brown led IMPD officers on a nine-minute, high-speed chase before crashing his vehicle into a home on the southeast side of Indianapolis near South Keystone Avenue and East Minnesota Street. Brown fired nine gunshots out of the back window of his vehicle toward an officer's cruiser. One of the bullets struck the side of the police car and others struck nearby homes.
