In the midst of an increase in the number of law firm mergers and acquisitions across the nation this year, two Indianapolis-area firms have announced that they have joined forces.

Bose McKinney & Evans LLP announced Monday that Carmel-based RobergeLaw has merged with it, adding attorneys Christopher Roberge, Elizabeth Roberge and Alexandra Gortchilova to the Bose McKinney team. Both Christopher and Elizabeth Roberge will serve as partners in Bose McKinney’s Business Services and Litigation groups, while Gortchilova will work as an associate in both of those groups.

Prior to the merger, Christopher Roberge’s legal career has included providing support to restaurant franchisees in connection with mergers and acquisitions, while also negotiating or drafting commercial lease, franchise and real estate purchase and sale agreements. Elizabeth Roberge focuses her practice on representing individual and corporate clients at all stages of civil litigation, while Gortchilova assists with transactions involving multi-unit purchase and sale of franchised assets, corporate transactions, and certain litigation matters.

“Working with our friends at Bose McKinney and Evans, we look forward to expanding all of our client relationships, while providing an even higher level of service and responsiveness,” Christopher Roberge said in a Monday statement.

The announcement of the Bose McKinney merger came just one day before Altman Weil Inc. released new data showing an overall increase in mergers and acquisitions nationwide in 2017. According to Altman Weil’s report, there were 24 combinations announced in the third quarter of 2017, while 76 deals have been announced year-to-date.

Acquisitions of law firms with 20 or fewer lawyers accounted for 71 percent of all combinations in July, August and September of 2017, Altman Weil said, with the Midwestern and Western United States showing the most activity among those smaller firms. California has been a central hub for mergers and acquisitions among both large and small firms, the data shows.

“Seventy-six law firm mergers and acquisitions is the largest number ever recorded for the first three quarters of the year,” Altman Weil principal Eric Seeger said in a statement Tuesday. “I won’t be surprised if we see 100 deals by year end, easily beating the prior benchmark high of 91 in 2015.”
