Fifteen Hoosiers will be honored during the Indiana Bar Foundation’s recognition dinner in December for their contributions to the legal profession, pro bono legal services, civic education, and the public through community service.

The 2017 Awards and Recognition Dinner will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Crowne Plaza/Union Station in Indianapolis. Single reservations for the dinner and reception are $25, and are available until Dec. 1. Tables of eight are available for $200.

For reservations, either call Kayla O’Brien at the bar foundation at 317-608-6502 or go online at www.inbf.org/.

“Every year, the Foundation honors dedicated public servants and leading lawyers from across the state who have demonstrated a solid commitment to improving our communities and solving the most complex problems we face,” said Kenneth Allen, IBF president. “I’ve never seen a more impressive and deserving group than those selected in 2017. Congratulations to all!”

Among those being honored will be the late Senior Judge Larry McKinney of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. McKinney, who died unexpectedly in September, will posthumously receive the William Baker Award for his work in civic education.

He was a tireless champion of the We the People and Indiana Mock Trial programs run by the Indiana Bar Foundation that annually teach many elementary, middle and high school students from around the state about the Constitution, democracy, and the law. He was also instrumental in reinforcing the lessons the students were learning by holding a naturalization ceremony during the We the People state championships.

The other awards and recipients include:

  • Randall T. Shepard Award for pro bono service – Arthur Johnson, volunteer attorney at Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic
