The Indiana Supreme Court announced in a Jan. 4 order that Senior Judge Robert M. Hall will become judge pro tempore of the Vermillion Circuit Court effective April 2, one day after current Judge Bruce V. Stengel retires. Hall will have authority to “continue the employment of court personnel and otherwise discharge the duties of Judge of the Vermillion Circuit Court” until a successor is appointed, or until further order of the court.
Also last week, the high court clarified the scope of the recent transfer of Warrick Superior Judge Robert R. Aylsworth to the county circuit court. Aylsworth was temporarily transferred to the Warrick Circuit Court on Jan. 1 after current Judge Greg A. Granger announced he would be temporarily unavailable to perform his duties at different times throughout 2018.
Aylsworth was given jurisdiction over both the circuit and superior courts during the transfer, but the Supreme Court clarified in a Jan. 3 order that his jurisdiction applies to “administrative purposes, including appointing Senior Judges in the absence of…Granger or acting in the absence of both Judge Granger or a Senior Judge.” The order also increased the Warrick Circuit Court’s senior judge allocation to 20 days.
