Lake County preparing for switch to Odyssey this month

Lake County will become the 62nd of Indiana’s 92 counties to adopt the online Odyssey case management system when it makes the transition on May 21.

Odyssey will replace the use of the CourtView court record management system in Lake County, which has used that system since 1999. Court administrator Martin Goldman predicts that Lake County – the state’s second-largest – will contribute more than 80,000 files to Odyssey each year once it implements the program.

The transition to Odyssey will spell change for Lake County court and clerk operations. Implications for the public include:

  • Traffic ticket and criminal fee payments will be accepted through the Lake County Online Docket through 11:59 p.m. on May 11, while payments between May 12 and 20 must be made at the clerk’s office.
  • Public case information and criminal fee payments will become available at 8 a.m. May 21 at mycase.in.gov, and traffic ticket payments will be available at public.courts.in.gov/pay at the same time.

Attorneys will also notice changes, including:

  • E-filing into existing cases through the Lake County pilot project can continue if those cases were initiated electronically by 11:59 p.m. on May 11, while new e-filing will be suspended until Lake County transitions to the statewide e-filing system next year.
  • Case information will be available at 8 a.m. on May 21 at mycase.in.gov, and attorneys can sign in using their Indiana Courts Portal ID for enhanced access to confidential documents.

So far, courts in 91 Indiana cities or counties have implemented voluntary e-filing, while 87 have switched to mandatory e-filing. The Muncie City Court in Delaware County is the next court scheduled to move to voluntary e-filing on May 11, while the Randolph Circuit and Superior Courts will switch to mandatory e-filing on May 14.

The Indiana Supreme Court has set a goal of rolling out statewide e-filing by the end of 2018. However, courts in Clinton, Howard, Lake, Miami, Pike, Putnam, Sullivan and Wayne counts will implement e-filing once Odyssey is deployed in either 2018 or 2019.

The full e-filing implementation schedule is available here.
