LaGrange County deputy prosecutor William R. Walz IV has been appointed to the LaGrange County Circuit Court. Gov. Eric Holcomb selected Walz to succeed Judge J. Scott VanDerbeck, who retired June 1.

Walz joined the LaGrange County Prosecutor’s Office in 2016. Prior to that, he served as deputy prosecutor in Marion, Noble, Shelby and Allen counties. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Indiana and a law degree from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and was admitted to practice in 2002.

Walz will be sworn in as LaGrange Circuit Judge on a date to be determined.

VanDerbeck started his judicial tenure Jan. 1, 1996, according to LaGrange County newspaper, The News Sun. Shortly after graduating from Valparaiso Law School in 1984, he established a private practice in LaGrange.

During his retirement, VanDerbeck told The News Sun he plans to serve as a senior judge and private mediator.
