Zionsville attorney Kirk Allan Horn, 55, died on Friday, August 3. Visitation and a celebration of life service are planned later this week.Horn began his career as a Marion County Probation Officer after graduating from Hanover College with a degree in psychology. The position inspired his lifelong passion for law and public service, spurring him to receive a J.D. from Indiana University Maurer School of Law.

After his admission to the Indiana Bar in 1990, Horn established Mandel Horn P.C. with partner Derek Mandel in 2002. Horn was recognized as a 2018 Indiana Super Lawyer for his strong reputation as an attorney specializing in civil rights, municipal defense, insurance defense, and litigation.

Mandel said Horn was “well known within the Indiana legal community not only for being an excellent attorney, but also for his great sense of humor and sharp wit. … There is no doubt that Kirk was an excellent lawyer, but more importantly, Kirk was an honorable, hard-working, well respected and well-loved person, friend and law partner.”

Horn was a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana, Honorable Order of the Blue Goose and Project Management Leadership Group.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Rita Stone Horn, and children Sam, Jack, and Caroline.

Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W. Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis. A Celebration of Life service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Friends Church in New Castle. There will be open visitation with family from 10 a.m. until service time. Online condolences can be made here.
