IndyBar: Attorney and Paralegal Volunteers Needed for Ask A Lawyer on October 9

  • Print

Don’t have much time, but want to lend a hand? Ask A Lawyer, a two-hour legal advice program, may be right for you.

Ask a Lawyer is the IndyBar’s largest pro bono event, taking place twice each year at locations throughout the city. Ask a Lawyer connects individuals seeking legal guidance with free face-to-face and call-in assistance from an IndyBar volunteer attorney. We’re looking for volunteers for the Oct. 9 event.

Volunteers take on just one two-hour shift and are provided with a resource guide to help in assisting the public with questions on divorce, guardianship, child custody, child support, landlord/tenant issues, bankruptcy, personal injury, criminal law, employment law and more. Both attorney and paralegal volunteers are needed, and law students are encouraged to shadow attorneys during the event. Interested? Email Arnetta Scruggs at [email protected] to volunteer.

Throughout its history, the IndyBar and its members have played a significant role in the provision of pro bono legal services in Indianapolis. Many provide pro bono legal services because they believe they have a personal and moral obligation to use their skills to benefit the less fortunate. The IndyBar has worked to serve its members and the community by making becoming a volunteer easier and providing the support necessary to make volunteering an enjoyable experience. IndyBar pro bono activities are reportable to the Indiana Supreme Court for the mandatory reporting requirement.•
