The final passage rates for the July 2018 Indiana bar exam show 65 percent of all takers successfully completed the test, a result that is closely aligned with recent years.

Final results for the July 2018 exam were released Friday by the Indiana Board of Law Examiners. The percentages include those individuals who appealed their failing score and, after a review of their answers by the examiners, were found to have passed the exam.

Comparatively, the July 2018 overall pass rate falls between the 66 percent in July 2017 and the 64 percent in July 2016. Among first-time takers, 75 percent passed the July 2018 bar, which matches the July 2017 passage rate and is a few notches above the 72 percent rate from July 2016.

The preliminary results for July 2018 had the overall passage rate at 62 percent and the first-time rate at 72 percent. A total of 453 people took the exam in July, down from the 529 who took the exam in July 2017 and the 508 from July 2016.

Repeat takers hit a passage rate of 35 percent in the final results, which continues an upward trend. The passage rate was 30 percent in 2016 then improved to 32 percent in July 2017.
