A northern Indiana woman has been sentenced to two years in prison in the death of a 7-year-old boy who was run over with her sport utility vehicle.

Twenty-two-year-old Kayla Bennett of Mishawaka was also sentenced Tuesday to six years of probation and her license was suspended for four years.

She had pleaded guilty in November to causing a death while operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance in Briyson Councell's death.

The South Bend Tribune reported that court documents said Councell was playing with his sister in the backyard of their Mishawaka duplex last June when Bennett struck him with her SUV as she pulled into an alley behind the home.

Police said a blood test showed Bennett had active and inactive marijuana in her system.
