Those who’ve already signed up for the 2019 Indianapolis Bar Foundation Lawyer Links Classic Golf Outing on July 25 have started practicing, but it’s NEVER too late for you to join in on the fun and support good causes. IndyBar’s immediate past president James Bell sat down to chat with the two in charge of this year’s event, Mike McBride and Ned Mulligan of Cohen & Malad LLP, in hopes to convince you to join us in support of the IBF this July. (Side note: these two take the IBF golf competition very seriously and have been practicing vigorously since August of last year, but even more important to them is supporting initiatives of the IBF made possible only through events like the golf outing.) Check out the interview below, and sign up to make a difference on July 25 at indybar.org/golf!

James Bell: Ned and Mike, you are the chairs of the golf outing, you possess expert golfing skills and you have often been compared to “Tiger.” For clarification, are you being compared to: Tiger Woods
Tony the Tiger
Tigger from Winnie the Pooh
Other

Michael McBride: James, we think you got it wrong. Our golf games have never been compared to “Tiger,” but have been compared to “the Tigers.”  More specifically, the 2003 Detroit Tigers who set a Major League record for most losses in a season with 119.

JB: There has been a lot of talk in the news about redaction. If you could redact anything from this Earth, what would you redact?

Ned Mulligan: Assumi ng that by “redaction” you mean “to eliminate” and not merely “to cover up” – I’d say injustice. Injustice and unequal access to legal services are two issues the Indianapolis Bar Foundation (IBF) seeks to address by supporting various community pro bono and other programs.  The Lawyer Links Classic, hosted this year on July 25 at the Country Club of Indianapolis, is one of our two biggest fundraisers that helps us to advance that goal. But most importantly, sdasdaddd ddddddddds sssssss sssssss sssssssssss saddddddddddddsss  ssssssssss sssssssss ssssssssssss ssssssss ssssssssss sssssssssss ssssssssss ssssssssssss ssssssssssss sssssssssssssssssss I mean, can you believe that?

JB: Can you give me some examples as to how IBF seeks to eliminate unequal access to justice?

MM: Sure. The IBF provides legal resources to members of the Indianapolis community with limited financial means.  Without financial and volunteer support, we would be unable to provide ongoing grants and programs aimed at advancing justice and leading positive change in Indianapolis through philanthropy, education and service.

JB: How does the golf outing help the IBF reach its goals?

NM: The golf outing helps us raise funds to support the IBF’s ongoing grants and programs.  Everyone who is involved – volunteers, golfers, sponsors and donators – help us raise needed funds to advance the IBF’s mission and charitable efforts.  We do hope everyone considers joining us at the golf outing this year.  In addition to raising money for a great cause, we will all enjoy a great (hopefully sunny) day on a fantastic golf course interacting with the wonderful members of our legal community.•
