Maurer law school to host IP colloquium

Beginning Thursday, five distinguished scholars from around the world will share their work during the Center for Intellectual Property Research IP Colloquium at Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington.

The “Protecting Intellectual Property: A Global Perspective” colloquium will focus on recent developments in IP law in the U.S. and other countries. The first speaker is Mira Sundara Rajan, an independent scholar, IP consultant and honorary member, Magdalen College, Oxford University. Her Sept. 8 talk is titled “Authors or Auteurs? Moral Rights in Film.”

Carys Craig of Osgoode Hall Law School at York University will speak Sept. 22 on “Copyright, Communication, and IP Culture: Towards a Relational Theory of Copyright Law.” On Oct. 13, Pierre-Emmanuel Moyse of McGill University Faculty of Law will speak on “Intellectual Property Rights and ‘Abuse of Rights’ Theory, a Jurisprudential Inquiry.” Peter Yu of Drake University Law School will discuss “The Graduated Response” during his Oct. 27 presentation; and Daniel Gervais of Vanderbilt Law School will examine “The Changing Landscape of Collective Rights Management” during his Nov. 3 presentation.

All talks are from 1:30 to 3:25 p.m. in Room 213 of the law school. Continuing legal education credit has been applied for and the public is welcome to attend. More information can be found on the Center for Intellectual Property Research’s website.
