Teen Court to hold Super Saturday session

More than 30 volunteers will assist with 11 Teen Court cases from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 16 at Reach For Youth, 3505 N. Washington Blvd., Indianapolis, 46205.

An official diversion program for the Marion County Juvenile Probation Department, Teen Court traditionally schedules three to six cases during the week. Reach For Youth is holding the weekend sessions to accommodate additional demand.

Reach For Youth has facilitated the traditional Teen Court program in Central Indiana for more than 20 years. The program is a recognized juvenile crime solution and partially funded by the Marion County Community Crime Prevention Grant program. Serving as a diversion program for the Marion and Johnson County Juvenile Probation Departments, youth arrested for first-time, non-violent offenses receive a second chance through Teen Court and have their case heard by a jury of their peers who determine the consequences or sentencing. Lawyers volunteer as judges for Teen Court, and teens serve as attorneys.

Once a teen completes the assigned consequences successfully, Teen Court participants walk away with a clean record.
