DTCI: The DRI annual meeting will be big fun in the Big Easy

DTCI-SchultzThe 2012 DRI Annual Meeting will return to the Crescent City – New Orleans, La., – Oct. 24-28. For those of you who have had the pleasure of attending prior annual meetings in New Orleans, you will understand what a great time is in store for all attendees.

This year’s annual meeting will take place at the New Orleans Marriott, which is a beautiful hotel located just a few steps off the French Quarter. This year’s meeting will kick off on Thursday with a point-counterpoint discussion of the political landscape by Karen Hughes and Dee Dee Myers, who served in the administrations of George W. Bush and Bill Clinton respectively. The DRI Awards Luncheon speaker is Roy Blount Jr., a southern humorist and panelist on National Public Radio’s “Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me.” Friday’s keynote speaker is internationally acclaimed author Niall Ferguson, one of the world’s leading historians of the global economy. His latest book, “Civilization: The West and the Rest,” is already an international best seller.

Other notable speakers on the program are Terri Morrison, author of “Kiss, Bow or Shake Hands,” presenting on Thursday; and Paul Sullivan, author of “Clutch,” and Shankar Vedantam, author of “The Hidden Brain,” presenting on Saturday. In addition, attendees can earn up to 12.25 hours of CLE credit, including cutting-edge programs from our substantive law and practice area committees.

In typical DRI fashion, a number of wonderful social activities have been planned. Beginning on Wednesday, a reception will be held for new and prospective members followed by the Welcome Reception – New Orleans style. On Thursday, spend the evening at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, which will include on-field competitions with plenty of food, beverages and music. Another networking reception will be held on Friday conducted by the DRI Diversity Committee. The week’s social activities will be capped off on Saturday night at the Presidential Gala and installation ceremony, which will include a silent auction of many fabulous items.

In addition to all of these activities, the wonderful fun and atmosphere of New Orleans will be at your doorstep. From Bourbon Street to the Garden District, New Orleans is a great destination.
