Woman gets 4-year sentence for lying about being injured in State Fair collapse

One of the two women prosecutors say filed false claims in order to receive money from funds set up for victims of the stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair in 2011 received a four-year sentence Friday.

Sandra Hurn pleaded guilty to Class C felony forgery and received two years home detention followed by two years of probation. She also must repay $7,500 she received from the Indiana State Fair Remembrance Fund and complete 80 hours of community service.

She faced charges in Marion County of three counts of Class C felony forgery, two counts of Class D felony perjury, and one count each of Class D felony theft and attempted theft.

Hurn and Stephanie Murry were charged in December 2011 for their role in falsely claiming to be injured in the stage collapse. They allegedly falsified hospital records in order to be eligible to make claims to the Indiana State Fair Remembrance Fund and the Indiana Tort Claim Fund.

Murry pleaded guilty to Class C felony forgery and Class D felony perjury in August, but hasn’t been sentenced. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office says there is a warrant for her arrest because of a violation of release conditions.
