A student at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis claiming permanent injuries from a Megabus crash on Interstate 65 is suing the carrier.

The Indianapolis Star reports 25-year-old Mashhour Hamad Alqahtani of Saudi Arabia filed the complaint Thursday in Marion Circuit Court in Indianapolis.

Alqahtani alleges the bus driver told passengers the windshield wipers were malfunctioning and that that led to the crash south of Indianapolis Oct. 14. Attorney Jason Reese says his client was thrown from the bus and injured his head, brain, collarbone, ribs and lungs.

Police have said the bus struck a car that had crashed.

Megabus spokesman Sean Hughes says the company is aware of litigation over the crash and is cooperating with investigators.

Four Chicago residents also are suing Megabus over the crash.
