The Indiana Supreme Court is considering altering the child support guidelines, which provide a measure for determining the amount of child support each parents owes.

Although the Domestic Relations Committee of the Indiana Judicial Conference already reviewed some changes, comments from the public will also be accepted until Aug. 11. The committee is now considering final revisions before making recommendations to the Indiana Supreme Court, which will determine if the guidelines are approved.

Individuals can submit comments in writing to:

Jeffrey Bercovitz
Director, Juvenile and Family Law
Indiana Judicial Center c/o the Domestic Relations Committee
30 S. Meridian St., Suite 900
Indianapolis, IN 46204-3564

Comments may also be submitted electronically.

Further information regarding the proposed changes can be found online. Generally, the proposed changes include revisions concerning the availability and cost of health insurance for children under the federal Affordable Care Act, the change in the age of emancipation from 21 years to 19 years, and clarification of educational and extracurricular activity expenses.
