Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law 3L Jordan Kyle competed this weekend at the U.S. Olympic marathon trials in Los Angeles in the hopes of representing the United States at the summer Olympics in Brazil.

Kyle won his right to compete in the trials with a 1:04:58 time in the half marathon at the Indianapolis Monumental in November. He is a three-time NCAA Division I All-American; once at Indiana University and twice at Colorado University.

The Fishers native finished the Olympic marathon trials with a time of 2:38:20, running in record-high temperatures, but did not qualify. The top three finishers, Galen Rupp, Meb Keflezighi and Jared Ward, who had times between 2:11:12 and 2:13:00, will represent the U.S. in Brazil.

IU McKinney Professor Frank Sullivan Jr. attended the trials as a spectator.

“Jordan’s performance was inspiring,” Sullivan said. “By completing this incredibly difficult race, he showed himself to be among the nation’s top marathoners.”

Sullivan said that Kyle’s performance was made all the more impressive by the fact that he trained in cold weather and at a low elevation while a full-time law school student.

Nearly 37 percent of the race’s starters did not finish.
