Vacancy opening up in Northern District Bankruptcy Court

The 7th Circuit Judicial Council is now accepting applications for judge in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Indiana in Hammond.

Applicants must be admitted to practice in at least one state court and be in good standing with every bar association of which they are members. Other requirements are sound physical and mental health, and a demonstrated commitment to equal justice under law.

Judge J. Philip Klingeberger, who began his term on June 16, 2003, will serve until his 14-year term ends next year. Before joining the bench, Klingeberger had been assistant U.S. attorney in the Northern District of Indiana since 1986. He is a 1975 graduate of Indiana University Maurer School of Law.

The Judicial Council will make recommendations to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, which will make the appointment.

Applications are due to the Judicial Council by Aug. 5. Job requirements and applications are available on the 7th Circuit’s website. Bankruptcy judges serve 14-year terms and may apply for reappointment. The current salary is $186,852.
