Fort Wayne man gets 85 years in fatal attack with microwave

A Fort Wayne man convicted of beating a mentally ill man to death with a microwave has been sentenced to 85 years in prison.

An Allen County judge sentenced 29-year-old Justin D. Littlejohn Friday.

A jury convicted Littlejohn in June in the December slaying of 46-year-old Randy Lee Dial. He suffered skull fractures and bleeding on the brain in the attack in a motel room and died three days later.

Littlejohn told the court he intends to appeal his conviction and sentence.

The Journal Gazette reports Dial's mother asked Littlejohn during Friday's hearing what her son had done to him "that you would bash him in the head with a microwave?"

Littlejohn said he hadn't meant to kill Dial, describing it as a fight and saying he "took it too far."
